You can prep any above average child to score very high on the CogAT and the NNAT. The questions fall into very narrow and predictable categories so that with enough time and practice, a smart child can reproduce the patterns. I-Ready is totally different, and frankly a better idicator of a child's ability to accelerate in school. It's good the schools have wised up to the CogAT/NNAT prep game.

Agree. AAP isn't really a gifted program. It's advanced academics, and I-Ready is a decent measure of who could benefit from acceleration. COGAT and NNAT...not so much.

VALLS seems to be given to everybody.

Anyone know if VALLS is going to be used for AAP applications?

They used to use DRA on the applications when they administered that, so I imagine if they have a reading level data point it will be used.

Where did you hear this from?

NP. It looks like they're using VALLSS in K-2 and starting Iready reading in 3rd this year.

VALLS is only given to struggling readers, so most students will only be doing IReady.

Iready only from second grade fall test. Make sure your child get above 90 percentile, it would make appeal so much easier in case you have to do it.
