This must have been written by someone at vys's back office. Everyone I have ever heard from says they are a dumpster fire at the elementary age girls levels. Not so much at the boys. The girls teams do not have enough talent to fill many teams or rosters and very poor coaching (a lot of run and chase style play). You are better off going to BRYC. But if your girl has any talent you should really look at McLean and/or GFR. Their locations are comparable to the other ones you mentioned and everyone knows that those are two of the better programs in that area and age group.

You clearly don’t know much about the NOVA youth soccer scene. Vienna is a drastically better club on the girls’ side than the boys’ side, and has a successful history in girls’ soccer. FVU was caused by the boys’ sides at McLean, VYS, and BRYC not being competitive (which in turn was driven by the BRYC boys’ program splitting off into NVU 2.5 years ago).

Let’s look at last year’s ECRl girls’ standings

2006 - GFR 5th, Vienna 7th, BRYC 8th, McLean 10th.
2007 - GFR 6, MYS 7, VYS 8, BRYC 9
2008 - GFR 5, BRYC 7, VYS 8, MYS 9
2009 - GFR 1, VYS 7, MYS 8, BRYC 9
2010 - VYS 2, GFR 5, MYS 6, BRYC 8
2011 - GFR 4, VYS 6, MYS 8, BRYC 10.

Only 1/6 MYS teams were better than VYS, and the same for BRYC. GFR obviously looks like the clear winner here, but then remember that the best players for the other 3 clubs were playing on Brave and Union.

With the combination of those clubs into FVU, VYS, MYS, and BRYC should benefit (by keeping more of their players).

Who is talking about 2006-2011 (high school kids)?

The comment was that Vienna is a complete disaster these days at the Elementary school ages. That is a fact most girls with talent and skill at Vienna have left for other teams. McLean is mainly where talented Vienna players go, but GFR is also a top team at those ages along with others. The future of FVU girls will definitely be McLean heavy.

What exactly do you want the youngest players to learn? How to play like City and win the treble? The youngest ages should be about skill development, not trophy chasing.

How many FVU girls are on the younger rosters that originally came from McLean?

I think BRYC in the younger boy ages is a great option if it’s close. I have an older boy who was there before the NVU break up. It was on life support, but it seems from still following Facebook posts that the breakup gave it some new life. More teams at the younger ages and more energy.
I was at Woodson in the Spring and some coaches had a program with some of the 6-8 year olds. Sharks and Minnows but a lot of kids having fun.
Go for the closest but I wouldn’t worry about the old politics at BRYC. And the newer politics at the older age groups won’t effect you.

Umm can you tell me more about BRYC being a mess. We are new members and are not “in the know” for travel soccer. We just picked this one because it was convenient.

That may be a little unfair of me. I do not have a child in the BRYC program.

That said, when Brave formed 2.5 years ago, a number of the BRYC boys’ coaches took their players and formed a new club, NVU. I think that put the club in a tough spot, along with some of the issues around their bridge teams. Maybe see if you can find any parents of older boys to give their opinion.

and if you are close to those three- look at McLean too.

pick the closest to your house.

But out of those three- FPYC is SO small and often has problem fielding teams after rec. Staff at BRYC in the younger ages (especially girls) is problematic (there are a ton of posts about it).

I don't know much about Vienna.

Hi, I have no opinion specifically on these clubs. (In general, just starting out, I'd say they are similar.) At your age, there will be 1-3 levels of teams, each with their own Coach. If possible, e-mail the Club now to see if you can attend or observe a practice for each club now. (I know this is extra work, hopefully your kid is into this idea.) But attending or observing a few practices now will guide you to the best place for your player and family! Good luck!

Depending on your child's age, you may be able to join this year--if interested, worth reaching out to each club to see if they have space now or for the spring season.

Geographically, recommend also checking Burke Athletic.

Tryout for all of them. Tell your child to ask friends at school which teams they play for. Check practice and game locations for this year's teams. Go from there.
