It’s common in this area for preschools with 3-4 yo kids.

In DCPS those kids are in public school and sometimes have field trips too.

My kid’s PreK class in daycare did this last year and it worked great. Most of the parents chose to go so there was probably only one or two kids that needed to ride in another car. Everyone had a great time. It was way easier than chaperoning my 1st grader’s field trip that required riding the metro. That was super stressful!

My kid's preschool took them to a pumpkin patch every year and they lived to tell the tale. The director was a certified car seat installer and checked the seats, and each car had a staff member in it. Now that I think back, I didn't love the idea but it seemed fairly low-risk.

Our DCPS PK3 took several field trips and my son loved them. But they were all on the metro. DPR camp for 3 year olds this summer also took the kids on field trips but it was chartered busses. No way would some random parent be driving my kid in their car.

Same. At DCPS/DCPCS preschools, there were maybe two to three a year. I always volunteered for them. They were stressful and exhausting (and made me appreciate over and over again what the teachers do daily!) but the kids had so much fun.

Our kids took a bus to a library in preschool. They had a blast.

Go to the fall festival.

Ok that would make so much more sense to me. I really am not comfortable with a parent I don’t know driving my child so far and needing to install a car seat on their own before doing so. I don’t want my kid to be left out but I just don’t get how everyone is not like flat no to this unless they are in a position to take the day off and go on the trip.

that would be a no for me.

It's not too young but making everyone drive is weird. Our first ones were walkable or metro.

Not too young at all. Most things are unnecessary but we do them anyway. It sounds like you're just lazy. Luckily, other people aren't, and your kid can benefit from that.
