After losing most of their best players to NVA, they then left the "partnership" as quickly as they joined it. Not long after that, DMV FC merged with GFR and Nadir Moumen took over as the GFR TD (while also still holding multiple jobs with MYS/FVU).
Rumor on the street is that NVA is still looking for a 3rd partner and Sterling participated in the “sister club scrimmages” at some age groups along with Valor and LS. Not sure that addition will help NVA much, but will likely have the same effect on Sterling that it did GFR and just move top players over to LS earlier.
The whole point of any ECNL alliance is to get the top players on the ECNL team. This is in both the players interest and the ECNL club. It is only angry parents that want their prized U-12 team to stay together so they can "win" some big tournament.
The reality is if a kid has the talent for ECNL or MLS next there is no reason they should stay on a small club like GFR, they need the competition so they can continue to grow. Unfortunately the child will level out by not moving up
