Extensions are not going to be able to get your to shoulder lenght from a pixie cut if you are white and have regualr white person hair. There just is not enough to work with in all likelyhood, and you will be looking at a $1200-1500 install and hair price.

You are better looking at getting a couple nice quality synthetic wigs (wigs.com) that are similar in color to your bio hair and wearing those during the grow out phase.

OP: I had a consultation with the salon, I was advised that with the length of my hair I should do a topper and extensions. I was quoted about $2,000 and up. Needless to say, I am not getting extensions! Call it ignorance on my part, but I expected to pay up to $500. Will try to be patient and grow my hair out

Ugh I’m sorry, I’ve been there… no experience with extensions but they seem like a lot of work and money for something temporary

What about getting into a clip or headbands?

Me: 35 year old busy working mom, who has been through medical issues over the last year and is feeling very frumpy.
I tried pulling off a short hair cut, which worked right after a couple good cuts, but I've also had some really bad cuts and then the inevitable awkward stages.

I let it grow out from April through July, then on a whim thought I'd get it cut.. and of course I regretted it.

Now I have this growing out pixie, I have some major meetings/job events coming up, and I've even been asked for a headshot for my company's website...

Long story short, I'm thinking of getting hair extensions. Nothing major - I'm not trying to get shoulder length locks, but anything to make me feel more presentable during the next 6 months of awkward hair.

Of course I'm starting to get cold feet. The expense (likely minimum $200 plus tax and tip), the wondering if I'm vain for wanting to do this when we have so many other things to pay for/take care of...
