Your problem is that you're a single parent living in MoCo. Teaching is not the problem.

Teaching is the problem. Many of the mcps educators are miserable and there are terrible morale issues. You are not alone OP I'm just not sure what you can do about it...you may be stuck due to finances

Your problem is that you're a single parent living in MoCo. Teaching is not the problem.

Too much time on Dcum has warped your sense of typical salaries. A $90k teaching salary means about a $100k annual salary including summer employment. That puts you in a similar pay bracket to professional medical staff, like mid-level providers in primary care, or physical and occupational therapists.

I'm an ex-teacher. You started teaching just when smart phones and social media were picking up steam. No wonder your job is harder now.

How many (excluding government workers) can retire before 60? Not many!
+1 Take a look at government salaries-they don't have your generous vacation time allocation and many will be lower. The DC area has the highest percentage of people with master's degrees.

Also, don't compare a MEd to a MS in a STEM program.

So, you make $95-100K, plus whatever your summer job gets you.
You don't seem to know a lot of government employees, or people with liberal arts degrees if you don't think that is good.
Don't get me wrong, I think teaching is a hard job, and the hours are long. But the pay is quite competitive to similar jobs/sectors.
