If you're interested in making savory scones yourself, I'd recommend this video and recipe by Alison Roman. I'm not particularly good at baking, but I've had good results with this recipe.

She uses parmesan and leeks/spring onions, but you could vary that, of course. Cheddar and onion (or chives) is a traditional combo, as others have mentioned. (She loves dill. I scale back the dill in her recipes.)

Note: this and other Alison Roman recipes use seemingly impossibly dry doughs. I always have a moment of panic that the thing is never going to hold together, but it does.
