A reasonable request would be to say someone has cancaer and you can't commit to the team the way you thought you could and ask for a refund if they can replace your kid on the team. Most travel teams have at least a few kids they rejected that they wished they could have taken. The problem is that most of those kids have already found other options. If they cannot replace your kid, be prepared to eat the cost.

I would focus on the family hardship (not structure of team changing, etc.). No need to provide negative feedback if you’re not going to be involved in that organization in the future. You might get some sort of refund.

And no, your kid won’t be blacklisted from other teams in the future if you focus on unexpected hardship/wish we could stay but can’t.

If one of the kids or parents has cancer, then I think you have a case. If it’s a further relative to the travel player, then I think you need to go to your commitment. It will be hard to replace him at this point in the season.

If you are looking for your money back, sounds like you have a case and they might be willing to refund you.
You probably shouldn't look for a spot in future on the team though.
They will want to fill your spot immediately though

I have heard parents getting refunds, just talk to who is in charge.

I think you need to be clear what you want. It sounds like you don’t want your kid to remain on the team because it isn’t what you expected and you are going to be busy caring for someone with cancer (I’m sorry to hear it).

You can absolutely drop the team. They will say “sorry to hear you are leaving” and that is that.

We you hoping for a refund? You might get one - depends on the team and whether they can replace your kid.

Hi, we registered for a travel team months back. We showed up and first practice was not a good experience and the structure of program totally changed since spring. Additionally we now have cancer in our family and travel will be tough due to appts. What is a reasonable request? Program will officially start next week. Thanks
