Our kid could read all those books when she was three. Turns out she’s hyperlexic! And autistic! Maybe yours is too! Good luck with that.

Verbally precocious children regularly complete rhymes

My two year old memorized full, long books with usually only two or three repetitions. She also loves to read as much as yours! We read every morning and every night. Books are her absolute.

But guess what…she also watches tv. Gasp.

What is with these “either / or “ posts on DCUM! Kids can read and watch tv and still turn out just fine.

Op here. Not that mom. Just inspired by her and my tot's voracious literary appetite.

Is that it? We would read an entire Magic Tree House book, plus a stack of picture books a day by then.

“We read”

So he didn’t read the book’s himself?

I can’t tell if you’re trolling, or partly trolling and also being a little sincere. Either way, do we really need another thread like this.

Just put my two year old down for bed. Total reading time with him today: 2 hours and 51 minutes.

Of he 10+ books we read, his favorite is Six by Seuss, which we read cover to cover. It includes Seuss favorites such as Horton Hatches an Egg, The Lorax, and Yurtle the Turtle. He calmly sits in my lap, turns the pages for me, and completes many of the rhymes at the end of a paragraph. For example, after hearing: "On the fifteenth of May, in the jungle of Nool, in the heat of the day..." he completes it and says "in the cool of the pool...". After the final book, he asked for "one more story".

What gives?

(Is this what happens when you don't sedate your toddler with screens?)
