If you plan on visiting the school and have secured a scheduled tour, ask the coach if he/she will be around that day so you can meet. Lots of good advice above. Most specifically, look at your child’s best event and times to see if they would be competitive and an asset to the team.

Look at the times for the league championship meet for whatever schools you are considering. Your daughter should be in range of the kids making finals there.

Bar might be higher than you think.

DP. What is a taper meet?

Once swimmers get to a certain/age level, they taper (decrease their training and increase rest and speed) to get ready for a championship meet. During age group (13-18) swimmers usually taper in late November/December, in March and in late July/August.

Any chance you could post that sample?

My swimmer is a college senior, and I sure we don't still have it-

The D3 schools my swimmer was considering, academics were important, so the letter included, grades, classes, intended major and test scores and other interests. I remember it included a paragraph about their swimming and times (definitely if they would score at conference meet) and information about their current training (club and HS) and any awards/cuts. He also completed the online questionnaires for each of the schools. Some schools never responded, and some took a while for them to get back to him.

I am sure an older teammate, club/HS coach or even AI can help with samples. What we were told, is if you are realistic and have a large number of choices, you will find a place to study and swim.

I also wouldn’t write off DII schools.

Our DS is a DII coach and there’s good advice in the reply above. The recruitment questionnaires are usually easy to find at the top of the team’s website.

She should email the coaches at the schools she's interested in. Be aware, however, that some D3 programs are better than D1 programs. To get a sense of whether she'd be competitive, your daughter should look at the recruits coming in this year and their times. She should also look at results from last year's conference meet and see if she would be able to score/final in that meet. That will make her competitive for the team.

Some D3 coaches seem to start the recruitment process later than D1 coaches, so it might be a bit early for some D3 schools who are still finalizing their recruits for the class of 2025. Of course, she needs to be an academic fit for the school, too, so the coaches will want to know about her grades, SAT scores when she has them, etc.

Get a swimcloud account. It will help identify colleges with DIII swimming and where she fits on the team. Fill out the recruitment questionaires for the colleges she is interested in. Send the coach an email after she completes the questionaire expressing her interest and providing the times in her best events, her GPA, her classes, her interests. Continue to email the coach after big meets. Summer before senior year - ask for academic pre-reads if they offer them and go on an overnight visit - they don't have a limited number of "official" visits in DIII but most schools offer top recruits an overnight. There are some walk ons depending on the school but usually the roster is full by the time school starts. That about sums it up. Good luck

My daughter, who is a hs junior, has expressed interest in swimming in college. She is not likely to be recruited, but she could conceivably swim for some smaller DIII schools. She has a list of schools she is interested in, based on her anticipated major. What steps would she need to take regarding swimming?
