If it’s a slow time for your org, that can be a good time for the new person to get training done. My company is mostly remote, so it was nice to start in time to go to the holiday party and meet a lot of people.

Nothing wrong with a long on-ramp. Better for them to get the lay of the land rather than just jumping in right away (depending on your need, of course.)

I will add: I applied for my current job the first week of January and started at the end of February, and was delayed by a nearly week-long vacation I’d planned previously.

This is very dependent on your individual organization and the position being hired. I’ve seen hiring happen very fast at my organization (4-6 weeks from job posting to start date) and I’ve seen it drag on for months. It really depends on the hiring personalities involved, the quality of applicants, and how badly they need a person in the spot.

that seems like a really long time to get someone onboard.

Last year I applied for a job on 9/10, had several phone/zoom interviews, flew in for an in-person interview, got an offer and gave three weeks notice at my job, and started 12/1. And honestly I thought the process moved a bit slow.

If you post now, you should be able to have someone in place by Thanksgiving or even earlier.

If you have people reaching out to their networks and identifying candidates, can definitely move faster than that.

In that situation, we'd be aiming to have someone on board by mid November. We move quickly though.

Job will be posted in the coming days. Assuming 2 weeks for a job posting to stay up, 3 rounds of interviews (meh, 2 and then the executive "sure I like that guy/gal") and the 2 week courtesy period...am I crazy to think this puts us in January given the holidays coming up?
