I don't enjoy it but it's the only chance we get to put a face to the names.

Oh my god, I wish my school did this via Zoom.

I'm a teacher.

I like to get to know my kids' teachers, but don't find that to be the best opportunity (overwhelming and chaotic, in my experience).

So I skip it with minimal guilt.

I'm a teacher and I hate it too.

We are not supposed to talk about individual kids (not a parent-teacher conference), yet some parents will try to catch me, expecting me to "just talk for a few minutes" after the event or after a group change. I don't have time for this, and it is so selfish to the other parents who follow the rules.

Also, I'm exhausted and have to teach the next day, now with no planning time. I will be tired and "off" the next day in school.

I look and see what’s up on the walls, the seating arrangement (do they sit in rows or are the tables pushed together), listen to see how engaging the teacher is. So when later they talk about something that happened in class or who they sit by it hs easier to visualize it.

My son was in one high school class and the teacher droned on exactly like the teacher in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. The classroom was drab and messy, and the teacher seemed odd. My son asked me to drop that class and I agreed because I could barely stand it after 10 minutes. Instead he took that class online.

+1. I love going too.

I don’t think it’s necessary, but I enjoy at least putting face to name for teachers, and maybe saying hi to some parents. It’s a little glimpse into my middle-schooler’s life.

But not attending won’t hurt your kid in any way, so don’t force yourself if it’s stressful.

All students ant your school attend the exact same classes, with the same teachers, in the exact same sequence?

We went once for HS. Do you think it's necessary? If not, don't go.

I don’t ever learn anything very valuable, but I like talking to my kid about their teachers and their school. It’s just a little thing to remind them that you’re interested and invested in their education.

What do you feel guilty about? You know you're not missing anything.

I think it’s really helpful if you have a kid that struggles. Also I do like getting to know my kids’ teachers. But as for content, it’s just high lever overview and going isn’t going g to make or break your child’s education.
