Not OP - but I ran GDS high school principal (not Head of School) welcome letter through GPTzero and got approx 80 percent likely composed by LLM

Not a surprise at all for this extremely low caliber high school head. She also compared herself to Gandhi and Mother Theresa in the letter. Like them, she faces lots of criticism. Not kidding at all BTW

You should see how many students submit AI generated papers and never get caught. The students follow the example…

We got the same one from Maret! I just ran it through and got 90% confident.

Is this your first year at the school? Pull out the letter from last year… and the I’ve before? And the one 10 years ago. The point of any if those is not to attempt to be creative every year.

80% confidence is not very high

Chat GPT uses knowledge and input from letters written by heads of school to “learn”

If the head of school used letters from previous year as a template, it is likely very similar to what is in Chat GPT.

No, it isn't. Totally different purposes. There are always different rules for kids v. adults. Students are supposed to be learning by doing, and making mistakes, and learning from the mistakes. Second graders could use a calculator to do their fast fact worksheets, but then they aren't learning. No one says it is hypocritical for adults to use calculators. Same with other tools that make life quicker and easier after you've already learned the basic skills. Learn to form your letters before using a keyboard. Learn to do calculations by long hand before using a calculator. Learn to write a strong sentence, paragraph, 5-paragraph essay, creative writing text, etc., before using AI editors.

I figure most administrative emails are just retreads of the previous years’ versions anyway, so if they used chat gpt for that it doesn’t really bother me.

Honestly those filters are poor.

And the CHAT GPT are built on what's fed into them - like for example scraping prior years letters, which if I was HOS I'd start with the past two-three prior year's letters and build off them.

Our new principal's welcome message included his picture but no name. And gave less than 24 hours notice of a senior registration day (assigned schedule pickup).
