Everytime I see something about the football kicker Imthink of Adam Sandler and his song “The lonesome kicker”

Some lyrics. …

But I kick that ball
And I pray it goes straight
If it does
The coach says "Good job, number 8"
He doesn't even know my name is
Andre Kristacovitchlalinski, Jr.
But that's the life I live
The Lonesome Kicker

Kickoffs can be so very scary
Especially, if the returner breaks on through
And I'm the only guy on the playing field left to tackle him
I don't want to get hurt
So I pretend to tie my shoe

So my son, 11th grader, has picked a new position to play in Football in high school this year.

He's been in special teams and defensive positions previous years. He says he likes this position as he has played soccer for many years and enjoys kicking and punting.

However, Now that he's a kicker, he's not training much with the team and leaves about 1hr earlier than the rest. He doesn't even break a sweat.

What do kickers normally do during training? Is it common for them to be set apart from team training?
