Consider the magnet buses as a network, complemented by the public bus network. You don’t have to use the stop “closest” to you. There might be a different stop more convenient along the way of a morning commute.

Is your daughter friends with the student being picked up at the private home? My DC (magnet) stayed at his friend’s house in the morning. Friend was 1st stop for the bus to go to the GTLD program at the same school.

For going home, kid could take a different bus to a public library or catch a public bus to a more convenient pick up spot. This is a good opportunity to teach them to use the public busses - kids ride free.

An ES 2 miles away. It's a pain and we do occasionally use Uber Teens for afternoon pickup when we're both stuck in meetings.

It's possible there is a closer stop but the times are unworkable. Our child's closet stop for the elementary magnet had a pick up 40 minutes before the next closet stop so we drove to the next closest stop which I think was about 3 miles away.

It makes sense if OP lives in a part of the county where lots are larger and homes are further apart.

It makes perfect sense and it's reality.

Have you checked out the public bus schedules?

They might need to leave a little earlier or get home later, but it might at least be an option on the days you can't drive them. And it's free, unlike Uber Teen.

The school and bus company confirmed it's the closest. The bus actually stops closer but at a private house, and she's only allowed to get on or off at a public location. The bus also drives by a nearby public elementary school where some other magnet buses stop, but not hers. So, it's all a bit annoying.

Four miles to the school out for miles to the bus stop? I doubt the latter is accurate

It's about 1.2 miles to the bus stop for my kid. There's not a safe walking route home (although one is being built), so we will either drop off/pick up each day or they will take the bus to the local library and hang out there. I'm also interested to hear about Uber Teen.

Many parents drive that distance. Ours is 4 miles. I know parents who drive much longer.

Ours was a little over a mile but we live in a relatively dense part of the county. We dropped her off in one direction and she walked home the other direction.

Hi,

I'm curious how far other parents must drive their children to a magnet program bus stop. My daughter is just starting at a HS magnet program and her bus stop is four miles away. Driving her every day am and pm will be a real challenge.

Related question...has anyone used Uber Teens?
