I don’t blame them at all! It’s too early for schools to start around here- those kids got cheated out of a week or two of summer break

Most private schools haven’t started yet.

Sure they have just not in the DC area. We’ve been back for 2 weeks.

Last week of school is the time to miss. Laptops are turned in early so no work is done there. The last day of school is like two hours long which I guess is what the need to count for required days.

I’m not advocating missing school, but as a HS teacher it is a lot better to miss this week than later on when we are deep into content. They are only missing the overview of the syllabus that they can get online, the introduction activity that many don’t care about and review. It’s much harder to miss class later.

Even with that I had near perfect attendance so far this week. Absences aren’t as common as OP is making them out to be.

Because it's weird to have school in August!

I have not seen this at all- in high school anyway- but my kids are in public. Was more coming when they were younger.

Our HS doesn’t make it easy to make up missing work, even if they miss for valid reason. My kids hate missing school because it ends up being a total PITA to make up work. That said, not much is going on in the first 1-2 weeks anyway

“No one cares”? It’s supposed to be the parents who care. I don’t know who think was supposed to care but it’s always been the parents job to do the right thing

Sure it does. They can’t stop you. The worst the can do is not let kid makeup work, but unless high school, a lot of parents don’t care.

So if you ever wonder how much class your kid can miss for vacation, go on and book it, you won’t be alone.

What’s your point here
