I think this is accurate. We looked into it years ago and as teachers we could pay to bring our child into FCPS from outside the county, but my understanding that policy was only for staff. We ended up not doing it anyhow because it was just too expensive.

I have my child pupil placed and am required to pay $100 a year at each renewal. They don't make you pay the fee if the placement is rejected by the principal.

There are magnet programs for languages, performing arts, and advanced academics if you want to leave your base school, but you have to apply and be accepted.

OP again. I've heard about the language immersion schools. What others are there, and in which grades can kids apply?

There are a couple other magnet schools.

FCPS does not allow this because it is not a failing school district (despite the nonsense you read on this site). It's not a good sign when states/districts allow that.

Parents zoned for Mt. Vernon Woods or Hybla Valley may disagree. There are enough good schools that the aggregate scores look good. There are enough great schools for FCPS schools to pop up on lists of the best schools in the state. There are also failing schools

If you do not live in Fairfax County, you can pay tuition to attend an FCPS school. I think this really only applies to staff members who live out of county whose kids attend the school where they work.

I remember seeing something like this at some point but can't recall exactly.

I can’t imagine this would be allowed since it would go against OneFairfax principles.

There used to be a way to pay tuition to attend fcps. I didn’t see it on a quick google seaech but you could search more or email the registration office.

OP here. I knew an international student who was quoted around $8000 a year to attend MCPS.

Some school districts allow students to attend a different school if the parents pay a fee. Does FCPS allow that? What if you already live in FCPS but want to send your kids to a different elementary school?
