Mine are dead.

Birthday: I sent gifts and a card to her home in Europe, along with photos of her grandkids moving into their college dorm, riding on horseback, etc. She loves that kind of thing.

My mother who is 92 use to worry about money even though she shouldn’t. She pays her own bills but I have access to her checking account and when it gets to a certain level I Venmo money in so the account always looks healthy. She thinks it’s money coming in from an investment account. It was my husbands idea as he was tired of her complaining. Peace of mind is priceless.

This week is a quiet week, saw her Monday for a few hours and brought her some cookies (she absolutely loves cookies), some waters and some hairbands for her room. Replenished her Depends. Took walks around the courtyard and looked at the flowers she pointed out and watched the airplanes fly over.

This afternoon will be much of the same except I’m bringing her some new tops to wear.

She’s in memory care.

I’m arranging a kids’ carol concert at my grandmother’s assisted living. Most of the residents love to see children, especially those who don’t have younger kiddoes that can visit them regularly.

I am flying off to visit my critical and narcissistic mother for a few days. Pray for me.

Cooked healthy meals with lots of cut up fresh fruit and delivered. Listened to old stories for hours on end. Assisted with tech support. Transported to hospital for procedure and spent an extra day to ensure dad is okay.

Mom's hearing has been deteriorating for years. Finally made an appointment with an ENT --who canceled on us, last minute! (rare--storms or had to make a flight or missed a flight; I don't know). Took mom to a hearing aid place I don't think much of, but they saw her right away and they found her hearing aids were clogged with wax. She can hear much better now! I think the achievement, for us, was staying calm and keeping Mom calm through the changes. She's always worried about how much something will cost, and "is it a bother" for the hearing aid place to see her right away. She wouldn't want to be a bother--being deaf is preferable, apparently.

Mon Called her primary care to get them to fax an order for UTI screen that assisted living facility will run. Then called assisted living to remind them.

Tue Drove over to AL and once again tried to show her how to use Alexa and bring her another pair of reading glasses (she lost instructions to alexa, which is hit the blue button and "lost" her glasses--I found 4 pairs stashed away). Brought her some new underwear and a couple sweaters. Did her laundry while I was there finding things. Brought her a retractable lanyard for her key and panic button, because theone she had for her wrist broke.

Wed: delivered some groceries to her; checked in with staff. Brought her down to meal. At home, dealt with her medical bills and assisted living faciiliy charge changes. found her missing hearing aid and plugged them in to recharge. Discovered she had exchanged rollerators with another elderly resident so had to track them down and exchange.

Thursday--who knows what tomorrow brings?

Friday--going to have a status meeting with her assisted living because she may be moving to memory care sooner rather than later. After that, I am taking her to optometrist because she says her glasses dont work. even though they are new.

Weekend: take her out somewhere for a meal or activity.

Every day: fielded 3-5 calls from her.

This is an easy week, no medical crises or doctors appointments. I work full time and have kids with evening activities so its...a lot.

My mom lived alone and for the last 3 years of her life we paid people $75 plus free lunch to pick her up, take her to lunch and shopping/run errands. They were to spend 3-4 hours with her.

This happened 2-4x per week. Some were people we knew that needed a little extra money, sometimes it was my nieces, etc. Always people we knew that just needed a little money.

She passed away last.

It really was awesome for her to get out a few times a week.
