If you write it, and there's one typo of any kind, it puts you out of the running. If you DON'T write it, they'll offer you the job regardless. So I don't write them.

People are divided on it but it is a nice touch. I like them. I would not not hire someone for not sending one but it is noticed and appreciated.

I have interviewed a few dozen people. HR usually tells us not to respond and ignore the thank you note.

A poorly written thank you note is much more common than it should be and I have never been bothered by someone not thanking me in writing. I’m not weird, though.

Yes, send one. Some people expect it and those who don't are often positively influenced by it. It never hurts unless it's poorly written.

I always send a thank you. And almost always get an offer. It can’t hurt!

But has it ever tipped the scales to get you to pick a candidate whom you otherwise would not have chosen? I do candidate interviews at my company, and get thank you emails, and they don't change my evaluation at all.

What is a bad thank you note?! Unless you flat out insult the interviewer, I cannot fathom what kind of note would hurt someone's candidacy.

A short, well written thank you note will always reflect well on you. It may not get you the job if you are up against a stronger candidate, but it's never going to hurt.

I think that if you want the job you should do everything in your power to stand out positively, and this is something you can definitely do.

A nice one doesn't hurt. When I hire, I don't care one way or the other.

"i enjoyed meeting you and the Larlo team and appreciate your time and interest. Following up on your question about X....blah blah.

I searched the archives, and it appears that this is no longer considered necessary. Is that right? I was planning to follow-up on a couple of questions, too, but if thank-you's are no longer expected, it seems that may be weird. Ugh, I'm so bad at interviews, even though I would be great at this job!
