Mine did and the dentist put extra filing which was coming in the way during chewing. Had to get it fixed 3 times and now it seems to be ok.

OP here - Yes, it was very painful before. This was a two-parter. I had antibiotics after the first session and it helped the pain which was almost cleared up and then I had part 2 today, and I can't even bite down on the tooth anymore. I think I'm going to give it two days then go see an endodontist. Perhaps I should not have trusted this dentist. I wish I had asked for a referral to an endodontist right away.

Can you tell us why you had to get it retreated? Thank you!

I am interested in this as well. Had a root canal maybe 3-4 months ago and last week woke up with the same level of pain that caused me to get the root canal to being with. How do they retreat it?

Also interested in this. I had no pain before the root canal but was told I needed one when a crown was replaced. The tooth had a different sensation compared to the rest, but it was not painful. Now, that tooth still feels different, but not at all painful. I returned a month later for another scan and was told that it could take up to a year for a tooth/nerves to settle down, especially in women. I do notice that the "different" feeling is heightened when I have my period.

I had a root canal and was prescribed painkillers for when I needed them. The dentist explained that it would take a few days for the area to recover from the treatment. Fortunately, in my case, it only took about a day.

I’ve had two root canals, and, both times, the pain went away right away. My friend had lingering pain after getting a root canal from her DDS. She had it checked by an endodontist, and he found the that dentist had missed one of her roots.

Did they give you pain medication? Are you on antibiotics?
If no to both, call dentist. Don't let them get away with "take Aleve or Tylenol."

I agree with the posters above saying to give it a few days to settle. There's a lot of pressure involved in the procedure, and you may have some tenderness/soreness for a bit.

But if you spike a fever, notice excessive swelling, or if the pain is getting worse not better, definitely call the practice and arrange to be seen/checked.

Was it painful before?

Also, you could just be dealing with inflammation from the procedure. I'd take 800mg Motrin and see how I feel after 48 hours.

Depends.

When any question, call your dentist

Yes, mine did for about three days.

I thought there was something wrong with the procedure, but it really was just a combination of my mouth generally aching from all the work they had done in there and as my dentist said "needing time for everything to settle down." Some of it is also something like a "phantom pain" or referred pain. Give it a couple days.

Just got it done this morning and the tooth still hurts. Is this normal? How long will it last? How long should I wait before calling the dentist?
