Stop eating ultra-processed foods and see if that changes anything.

I am like you - intense cardio can make me starving.

I lose weight easily if I do 15-20K steps of walking, like PP, but that's not always feasible, especially if you have a job!

I walk a ton (15k-20k steps per day) and it doesn’t make me hungry because it’s low-impact. I highly recommend.

OP here. Thank you - helpful. I have about 40 pounds to lose that I gained on a medication. Off it now for several years but the weight has stuck.

I don't think I want to take time off from cardio, just to reduce how much I do, but this is an interesting idea. I actually don't think 300 mins is that nuts...It's three hour long ellipitical workouts and four 30 min HIIT workouts, so I spread it out, but I guess it's a little much?

Any eating tips from this PP? Did you just eat less or eat better? Or both?

I’m PP. I ate less and I ate 90-100 grams of protein daily. I don’t really enjoy eating that kind of diet but just did anyway. Lots of protein shakes and bars. Not sure that counts as eating better. Wasn’t that hungry with all that protein. Didn’t track calories. Spent a lot of time keeping food ideas rotating so I didn’t get bored and give up

I'm with you, OP. I don't think that sounds remotely like "cardio overload." I run 40-45 minutes six days a week, and I would call that average cardio. I mix in 2 30-minute Carolyn Girvan videos throughout the week and two 30-minute Pilates. I cannot imagine cutting out any of that. But now you have me wondering. I truly cannot drop the 10 pounds I want. However, I don't overeat because I'm hungry. I do it because of stress and I like it! If you do it, keep us posted!

Yes, in fact, my doctor recommended I focus on improving the health of my diet and lifting weights and walking and to skip any intense cardio because it would drive me to overconsumption of calories.

I’ve been losing weight fairly steadily, a few stalls when I didn’t watch my diet or when I was sick and slacked off my steps but basically the formula works.

Weight loss is 90% what’s on the fork, and if you’re always hungry from cardio you are more likely to overload the fork and be less intentional about what’s on it.

You need better food available at your fingertips. Stop eating junk. Eat a lot more protein and it will keep you fuller for longer. Your problem isn’t your cardio, it’s that you aren’t eating the right foods to fuel your body.

You might not lose weight but your body composition will change.

I am the same way. A lot of HIIT makes me so hungry. Also depending on your age, cardio like that can raise cortisol if you’re already stressed and that can inhibit weight loss.

I have reduced my cardio by a lot and I haven’t gained weight. I think I look more toned.

Losing weight is 90% nutrition, 10% exercise.

You're supposed to know this.

You can do whatever you want with your exercise. You don't actually need to exercise very much if your only goal is to lose weight. But you do need to make healthy food choices.

The problem here is eating garbage. People running five hour marathons manage to gain weight during their training all the time. The reason is they never fixed their garbage consumption problem.

You're probably hurting your joints and straining ligaments from over-exercising certain muscle groups compared to others. In the long-run, it may not be good for you.

But no, I don't think the cardio is causing you not to lose weight. You would have made poor choices regardless. This is just a way to look for a scapegoat.

OMG no, you are the first time I’ve ever heard of the weight lifting and HIIT and any other type of exercise other than cardio ever. Please tell 😴

300 min is crazy, I would do 180 min of strength and 90 min of cardio total. Bake the core into strength program.

Hey! I currently do about 250-300 minutes of cardio per week (HIIT videos and ellipitical), plus about 100 mins of strength and 60 mins of core.

The problem: I'm ALWAYS starving and eat unhealthy foods (like a lot of cheese or icecream) to fill myself up. Really having trouble sticking to a healthy diet.

My friend, a doc, thinks the cardio overload is part of the problem and suggested going down to 150 mins per week (recommendation for most Americans). I think I'll give it a try but curious about others' experiences striking an eating/exercise balance.
