Not really, if you understand people's motivation you can see ways to interact with them that also benefit you. EQ is more important for success than IQ.

I might be wrong but I see EQ as something much broader than just high empathy.

Thank you all, he is already a reader though he prefers fantasy and anime and manga.

Why not have him read Carnegie?

He is also not an immigrant (I am but we are fairly adjusted).

Please don't have your kid read Dale Carnegie. Have them read books with teenagers as protagonists - for girls: Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Stargirl, John Green books, Princess Diaries books, even Gossip Girl series.

I was an immigrant, and these books taught me how to interact successfully with my peers.

There was a study that showed those who read fiction had higher empathy. You could encourage your teen to read short stories and novels about people from a variety of backgrounds.

I am actually looking for my teen. I remember reading the good old Dale Carnegie when I was a kid and then some psychology books and it helped be but it was in another time and place.
What is there to read to help understand people, be well liked, etc etc?
