Kids in FCPS have recess in middle school. It's helpful for them to blow off some steam, and refocus.

Same with my middle school aged daughter who also is in private school.

Hate to break it to you, but kids do need recess.

Not OP, but I needed it. I was a kid, what's wrong with that?

Why do they not need it. I'm sure my kid will adjust fine, but they're still kids and need recess, I bet alot if it want it too. Well, maybe not those who are already starting to do teen things early.

No one is against it. There is just so much to accomplish that there really isn’t time.

I'm originally from Canada. There is no middle school where I grew up in the city. ES is K -7 and we still have 15 minute recess. Even in HS (grades 8-12) we had a 15 minute break around 10am. It's definitely needed and would help students/teachers to have that little break. At our MoCo MS the kids who finish lunch quick run outside to play soccer, basketball pickup games or sit outside for a bit. They should change the schedule to add recess for MS.

Kids would probably just sit around talking or be on their phones and not be active. I'm not sure it would accomplish much.

Hmm. I never had recess in middle school. The whole idea seems weird to me. If we'd had it, it would have people people finding corners to smoke or make out or fight. But I didn't grow up in the DMV -- things are different here.

No one is against it other than the administrators trying to cram everything in a day.
My kid is at a small private in moco K-8 and still has recess in MS. She has PE once a week still too.

Why are people do against kids having recess in Middle School? They're kids and can benefit from it I think. So many adults laugh at the idea of these kids needing and wanting recess. I don't get it, recess ended for me in 5th grade and I was not ready for that.
