Depends on the school. Our school is too small and has data that is really old, so it doesn't help much.

This is why I have trouble trusting the Scattergram. I wish you could sort by years. It would be most helpful to see the scattergram with only the past three years of data.

My DC’s school completely removes hooked applicants from the scattergrams (local private), so the scattergrams on SCOIR are pretty accurate. If your school includes legacy, big donor, recruited athlete and celebrity-type applicants in the scattergrams they are likely less predictive.

Both have flaws. College Vine is self reported while most of the scattergrams you will access from her school will likely have statistically insignificant data.

Use both as a guide.

Bear in mind that College Vine is self-reported data, including the level/length of extracurricular commitments.

Beyond that, your child will be judged against others from their high school who are applying to that college. So while they may look good against all the kids from Arkansas who also have a 3.7 and French Club presidency, those stats may not put them in the top of your particular high school’s pile.

Scattergrams, not even close.

When my DD and I look at the scattergram for her school for some of the college she wants to apply, the chances don't look too good. (She is on the very edge of the area where red starts to mix with green)

When we complete the profile on College Vine, it is putting her numeric chances at or above 50%.

I know that neither is perfect, but which one should be be weighing more heavily to build a list of reach/target/safety?
