Not understanding your concern when a police report clearly states you are not at fault. Its annoying but yes you have to talk to both insurance companies.

If it’s a rental that hit you it might not be very straightforward. So much easier to go through your own insurance.

I don't know what kind of driving records or cutrate insurance companies people have. We have State Farm and they are full service. I have no interest in "getting trouble" from the at fault party's insurance company, talking to that person, or talking to their company.

You absolutely should get his insurance company to pay for it, and only contact your company if they give you trouble because they can negotiate on your behalf.

Insurance will fix it. In a few years when you go to sell or trade it in, the CarFax will report the car has been in an accident so its value will be sharply discounted.

You shouldn’t have told your insurance. But you did so let them deal with it.

Your car was parked so obviously you’re not at fault. Your insurance should not go up.

Surprised the Police wrote a report as they didn’t witness it and it was on private property. Usually they just give you a collision exchange info form.

It's the way the world works and it really can feel unfair. Right out of nowhere, some idiot can hit you, and then you're stuck dealing with nearly the same consequences eating away at your time as if it had been your fault... things like insurance claims, bureaucratic processes, estimates, repairs, etc. The only real difference is that your insurance rates shouldn't go up since you weren't at-fault.

Be happy that the other driver acted responsibly. And make sure your insurance company doesn't try to lowball you.

I didn't like the idea of filing a claim with my insurance and risking my insurance going up and also paying a $500 deductible....when I didn't do anything....BUT it sounds like I will not get a ding on my insurance and I will be reimbursed for my deductible and everything will be fine. Your insurance company will recover any money it pays for the claim from the other company.

yes, my worry is that I'm making a claim against my insurance and I get "dinged" for it. Good to hear that you did not lose you safe driver discount. I hope that is the case with me. Of course I do not want to deal with the other insurance company. I just don't want my insurance to go up. Thanks for your response.

It's how it works. A guy t boned me. His fault entirely. Got police report. Called my insurance agent. Followed up with info on web site for State Farm (my company ) and gave brief recorded statement.
They took care of dealing with other agency, made a car rental reservation for me at place of my choice, dealt with other company and kept them from calling me.

So I came out of the store and there was a policeman and another person by my car. The person said that he hit my car backing in next to me. He waved down a policeman and they waited for me to come out. The policeman gave me the police report. He was driving a rental. The person that hit me asked me to get an estimate to see if he could pay out of pocket. I agreed and we all left. Next morning I went and got some estimates and they were much more than we anticipated so he needs insurance to pay. So now what? I contacted my insurance company just to let them know what happened and they wanted to put it through my insurance and they would just go after the driver that hit me for the deductible that I would pay. That makes no sense. Why should I file a claim with my insurance. I told my insurance that I didn't want to do that so they said, ok. contact the person who hit you insurance company. Seems backwards. Doesn't it? It's the weekend so there isn't alot we can do until Monday. Any thoughts on this?
