Worked there a while ago -- there are many smart teachers who care a lot and will work hard to support your kid. Not sure about the over all environment -- there are going to be some hard-working kids who hold up the class, some slackers, some who are absent a lot/ use drugs / get into fights like at many charter and public high schools. Over all, I think it's orderly, though. Few enough kids per grade that every kid has 1-2 staff per year who know them really well.

Neighborhood is fine except for the side near the park, and pretty much every neighborhood has a block you don't go down, I think!

We were at Capital City PCS. It is in the middle of a residential neighborhood w/detached single family homes and rowhomes. It is a nice neighborhood. No residential neighborhood in DC is teaming and bustling with people on the streets. People are coming and going from their homes. Cap City HS prides itself on ensuring that all students apply for college and they have a good track record with college acceptances.

Thanks!
I have driven or biked by the school many times and when I have passed, there was hardly any people in the street. Great news that those were the odd times, not the usual ones.

Any comments on safety in the area?
The school looks great but the neighborhood a bit desolate

If you’re IB for Roosevelt it’s really not far from you, why don’t you go check it out? It’s as safe or safer than the Roosevelt boundary. It’s mostly residential, not much retail, but not desolate. Very busy with kids going to/from school during the year.

Would hardly call the area "desolate," but it is a residential neighborhood. It's bustling with activity in the morning and afternoon. There are many schools nearby and lots of students walk. There is a lot of traffic congestion in the morning and afternoon as well.

There have been some murders like the cyclist who got killed last summer https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/1-killed-in-shooting-in-northwest-dc/3385357/ .

Question though, why did you put it on your list without investigating the neighborhood for yourself?

They typically have a handful of kids who do very well in the college process.
Full ride to GW / Posse scholar

They have a strong debate team

Set up a meeting with the school to find out more.

Hi!
My 10th grader has just been matched to Capital City PCS. I would like to know what parents think about the school before enrolling. I am IB for Roosevelt.
Mainly: Safety, extracurriculars, overall school environment. I can see the test score results online.
Thanks!
