Students are on a team and have classes with the core teachers assigned to the team. Some teams have additional teachers based on size or because of different levels of a class. Sometimes 2 teams will share an extra teacher who is assigned to one of the teams for planning purposes. It helps so that the teachers of the group of students work together and can confer if a student needs help, parent concerns, etc. the classrooms are close to each other as well. Electives are not part of the teams.

This is very common in middle school. I remember it being explained very clearly at the info sessions.
