Another Eastern European here. No great restaurant recommendations (except maybe Ambar if Balkan counts), but several EE communities have regular food festivals where you can get great stuffed cabbage and other "peasant"/comfort food things. The Romanian Food Festival is one of our favorites, but you have to keep an eye out for the dates.

Kafe Leopold for bratwurst if I'm hungry and it's cold outside. Beet salad and trout salad when it's hot outside. French toast if I go during brunch.
El Patio in Rockville for empanadas, meat, and alfajores.
Any Ethiopian for their veggie platter.
Almost any Peruvian.
I'm from EE, so anything with potatoes, veggies, and meat/sausage is my go to dish.

Eastern European here as well. I don't know if any places with decent pierogi or stuffed cabbage/peppers It's usually considered peasant food, so I wouldn't expect to see it really.

There is a charming place called Little Donna’s in Baltimore (Fells Point) that has wonderful pierogi and other Polish specialties.

I'm mixed Asian and European. If you want fresh traditional sushi, go to Kanpai sushi on MacArthur bld. It's a little carry-out shop.

What I'm missing is a good Algerian/Berber or Moroccan couscous restaurant. Does anyone know if there is one in the DC area?

Also looking for a good couscous place but alas have not yet found it!

I love this area for many reasons, but cultural diversity has been great for restaurant experiences. My background is Eastern European but the restaurants in that category are very limited.
What’s your heritage and what places do you love and feel like you’ve had a delicious home cooked meal?
