Do your HS teacher reps meet in “committee” to discuss a blurb for CCO rec and how kid is positioned vis-a-vis the class? Just found out about that committee meeting…
Not happy

This happens in DMV

Yes, this was true at our DC Big 3 with a few teachers. Some were especially dialed in to specific schools.

How can't this happen?

Some of these people in admissions have been there for decades (cough cough Georgetown) and same with some high school teachers.

If school president's get to have a Z list, you can bet the head of admissions can pull a dozen (or three) in without too much trouble

I think this was more common when there were conferences were the private HS counselors and college counselors would gather. Then, people realized that was crazy. but some relationships remain. Also, there's a fair amount of movement btw some high school admissions teams and college counseling teams and the college side, especially with boarding schools.

These conferences still happen. DC's public school counselor attended one last year at Vanderbilt and was one of I believe 3 public schools represented. It's a common occurrence.

Agree. And some private school counselors know the key/buzzwords they are looking for.

Haha. Even at our public, a letter from a teacher moved the needle at Stanford. Sadly, he retired last year.

This is a great time for parents to play dress up and cosplay as detectives to some minor details that probably do not matter at all.

Sounds ridiculous and parent rumors more than anything.

Rumor at our NYC private school is this one particular very well known, long-term teacher can really move the needle with several t10 colleges. Trick is he only writes a couple letters a year.

Part of me think this is a myth, but .. are you are familiar with such a situation?
