We have a large black white board in our kitchen that I love. (It's a while board that is black so you can use markers on it, not a chalk board that uses chalk.). I put the menu for the week on there, important scheduling notes... stuff like that.

I have ceramic plates I got in Turkey when I was 24, a brass plaque my grandfather had from Anheuser Busch, a few wood carvings from Mexico, some framed (under glass) gouaches from Australia.

If you have room I would do bookshelves as Pp stated. Also, less room needed for a thin credenza or sofa table with painting above maybe two tall thin lamps on either side. It is the dining place so don’t have to have kitchen art.

That sounds lovely on many levels.

I saw a kitchen in a magazine where the family had decorated with a bunch of vintage paint by number canvases in a similar theme—that looked great.

I also liked a similar space where the wall was filled with a huge map that had been cut up and put into smaller frames.

It will be behind where people sit. Husband wants a LARGE digital calendar. I do not want that at all. I have been looking on Houzz and it seems that the only things on kitchen walls are large utensils or signs that are very farmhouse. I do not have a farmhouse house. Transitional is probably the best description, pretty classic.

What do people do?
