my in-laws had a place (sold it during covid) and there was never anything to do besides go out on the boat. I used to escape and drive 30 minutes to Walmart. Only a couple places to eat (we always ate in). Limited slow internet too (maybe it's gotten better). And the drive over the Nice bridge - ugh.

We have a place there. There’s some cute restaurants in Kilmarnack. It’s a nice place to get away.

Kilmarnock is SUPER far like over 3 hours in Friday traffic. For that drive go to Delaware or Ocean City.

If you want an actual, shorter drive do the coast in Maryland or near Colonial Beach

OP never said they were looking at it as an investment. Lots of us love living on the water and spending our weekends on our boats and grilling out at home.

I have family that has a place there. Now that their kids are grown they go often and for longer trips. It seems like there is more and more popping up around there. They go hear music most Fridays at a bar or restaurant. Otherwise it's spending time outside, on the water, watching sunsets, and playing games. It's a magical place whenever we visit and there seems to be more and more to do nearby.

My dad's family is from the Northern Neck. I've spent a lot of time there. Just remember, there is NOTHING to do. I mean nothing. Very few restaurants, nothing for the kids, nothing. I know some folks who've retired there and like it, but they are old.

We are thinking of getting a small place on the water in the northern neck area (maybe 20 min from kilmarnock).

Anyone been there done that? We are hoping for a weekend get away place that lets us enjoy life on the water, boating, sailing, crabbing, and just relaxing from this crazy DC rat race. We would have a dock and beautiful view.
