The project is set up to provide possible dual nationals with an alternative national team pathway (if they are good enough). It’s also for players across the globe not just a certain part of the world. It’s also free. The information is on the ECNL website. Pretty self explanatory. Seems like a great resource. Kudos to the league for helping players.

Someone at ECNL must have just noticed many MLS Next players play for other International youth teams.

So they trying to keep up with the Jones's

It's been happening across all leagues for a while now. I think it's to expand the concept beyond the Central American countries and not necessarily what you think you thought was isolated to a league. Simple minded folks like you are the causes for USA soccer's talent issue, we look in one place thinking we have a method to funnel talent into a central location. We don't have a development program that forces top talent to the top of a pyramid, we in fact have 2-4 pyramids.

What are the 2-4 pyramids?

So you think USA soccer will get better by ECNL funneling talent to other national teams?

I think they are trying to use their platform to get exposure for their players to be considered for other countries. Those same players would love to play to USA, but they only look at ENCL for Girls and MLS Academies for Boys. They can and should look beyond those two leagues, but if I'm an player that has been overlooked by US Soccer, I'd be happy to represent another country that I have lineage to.

They are trying to use this to get more kids to join ECNL instead of MLS Next

Not exactly true on the mens or women's side league is irrevelant, but I do agree with your point that players are overlooked and this provides an alternative if you have the paperwork to get the citizenship for the country eligible.

I think leagues are important or at least the it appears to be. Men are ID by way of international or MLS academy and majority of players on the womens side were with an ECNL club. Always exceptions.

Allowing kids to have high level soccer training outside of the US i think is essential for developing the american player pool of course. Thisis not soccer tourism. All exposure outside of the US will only help because this is not a soccer country.

2-4 pyramids is a great way to visulaize it and separated by class and across cultural lines too. Soccer is taught very differently outside priviliged MLSN/GA/ECNL cirlces

It looks great for your soccer resume if you can pull it off. Better than any all-stars, selection games, or even the great ODP.

Representing a country might be on any athlete's list of greatest achievements.

They just wanted to promote their players that are representing National teams or help connect players that could potentially be pooled with National teams. It's a complicated process that as been effective with lots of Central American Countries.

Base requirement is the player has to have lineage to that country way of birth, parents, or grandparents. It gets hairy with citizenship requirments.

Is there anything to this? Sounds like they are working to connect ECNL players with youth national teams as some part of initiative this year. Has anybody had success with this via ECNL (or is it too new to comment at this point)? Was curious given the communication that came out? It seems like a pretty good effort for those players who are dual citizens and may be eligible.
