Because one of the hallmarks of bullying is making up names/nicknames and refusing to call someone by the name they want to be know by.

It is a power play and attempt to continue to grasp at the last vestiges of bullying power they have.

It's amazing how often DCUM posters pretending to be Democrats out themselves on this. They'll say something like,

"I've voted for the Democrat party all my life, but this year I am voting for Trump because of all the transgender illegal migrants."

Sorry if you're saying "Democrat party" then you've not voted Democratic all your life.

It's a verbal gang sign.

Agreed, but think the idea is that many Republican politicians want to sound uneducated. They think sounding/acting/being(?) uneducated appeals to their base. Kind of an insult to the base, but there ya go.

1. They think it's insulting to Democrats, kind of like deliberately mispronouncing someone's name. I've never known any Dems who are insulted by it, though. They just sound inarticulate.

2. It's their way of signaling that they're MAGA. "Vice" signaling, if you will.

I think it was part of a package of recommendations by Republican pollster Frank Luntz on language Republicans should use when talking about Democrats. The term "Democratic" has positive connotations and "Democrat Party" is -- just as a matter of the way it sounds - more jarring and unpleasant.

If memory serves, this kind of thing really took off with Newt Gingrich during his "Contract with America" days.
