+1 to Owala but we definitely replace bottles (or lunch bags or backpacks) yearly - that’s terrible over consumption. We get 3+ years out of bottles and lunch bags and 5+ years out of backpacks.

We finally found a leak-free bottle in Owalas and haven’t looked back. Kids love them.

This thread is so interesting. Our school still has water fountains, so water bottles aren't a thing for us just yet.

I'd say they last forever but we did manage to crack one this summer - a brand new one! Otherwise I replace only when lost.

Do the Nalgene bottles fit inside the side of the backpack?

Our bottles used to leak too, but I realized the kids would refill and not close the lid all the way or toss them in upside down. Now that they are older, it happens less often. They also stand upright in the bottle holder in the backpack.

We use yeti, hyrdoflask, or owalla stainless steel, some screw top and some straw. They dont leak. They dont break. They do get beat up, but I dont replace them just for cosmetics. Each kid has 3 though, so they do rotate through as needed.

We use Nalgenes as soon as our kids' teachers let them use water bottles without a straw (younger grades dislike that). The kids like them. We've cracked two. The recycled material in a specific green color seem to break when dropped on the edge of the bottom.

I don't see a whole lot of Nalgenes around, but my kids like them.

We use Yetis. Each kid just has one and there is no leaking with a chug or straw cap. I've tried other brands but with lids that you open and close it's too easy to forget to close before tossing in the backpack. You can have names put on them fo $6 if you order directly through the Yeti site.

We try to get ones that latch well so they don't leak. But we also stand them up outside the backpack with the water bottle pocket.

We stop using the ones that leak.

We replace them if they get lost, but that's it. We've never had one leak though, apart from user error.

The main issue I run into is leaking. DS tosses into his backpack quite a bit and ends up frustrated with a wet backpack.

I may just purchase a new thermos/water bottle for the year and see if it helps.
