I replaced AC only in my small SF house (1400 square feet) last year for about $6,000. It’s a Lennox. However, the compressor died in June (I started a thread on here about it then) and I was first told it would take two weeks to get the new part because of manufacturing issues. But two weeks later they still didn’t have it and had to replace the whole unit, which was still under warranty.

I think Lennox is an OK brand and the HVAC company told me I unfortunately got a rare lemon. Still, I would think twice about this brand in the future.

Oh, I have oil heat, which severely limited the vendors i could use.

Each gets one unit. DC house has 2, but the other unit is only a few years old. Florida is a single unit cooling a 2200 sqft townhouse.

Make sure you're dealing with an owner-operated firm. Whatever you do, don't do business with a firm that is owned by private equity, they will take advantage of you.

Two notable local firms that have been acquired by private equity investors in recent years are Cropp-Metcalfe and Furr.
