My hair has thinned and frizzed out with a new cancer drug I take. I finally went for Keratin treatment and it cut the frizz way down. It’s so humid right now it’s a little frizzy.

Has anyone used an at home keratin treatment ?

I have had keratin a few times but only the formaldehyde free version. I do worry about the formaldehyde. Anyway it looks great for like 4-6 weeks and for me it’s too expensive to do when it only lasts that long. YMMV

My sister lives in New York so I go when I visit her. It's this tiny, nondescript salon in Queens called Unique, and I ask her the salon owner, Mabel, to do it. My sister and I have gone for years, and I'm always overjoyed. Because I don't have to use any heat on my hair, my hair has also grown the longest and healthiest it has been.

I did Japanese straightening for years, but it wasn't the best for my hair. I now do Pro Addiction which is similar to keratin in that it washes out over time (rather than Japanese straightening which has to be cut out), but it just gets rid of the frizz and doesn't have the same damaging effect.

I've never done nanoplastia.

Keratin is best for hair that is a little frizzy and just needs to be smoothed out. It is not a straightener. It used to be a lot more effective when it first came out, but it turns out what made it effective is the formaldehyde, which is toxic of course. Better for your health, but in my opinion it doesn't do all that much for your hair. It will strip the color/toner out of your hair, so if you get it done, be sure to schedule your color appointment as soon as possible afterward (usually they recommend waiting 2 weeks).

Japanese straight perm is very effective at straightening your hair, but it tends to kind of suck the life out of it. Your hair will be pin straight with reduced body. Since you have thick hair, that might be fine, but I wouldn't recommend it to people with finer hair. It also damages your hair a lot, and you shouldn't apply bleach to your hair if you've done a Japanese straight perm. I get Japanese straight perms and stick to color glosses to cover my grays, because anything stronger is too damaging.

Which one of these is best for dryish medium thick hair? My hair is virgin with a few grays I'd like to cover up too. I did use a purple shampoo before and believe it dried out my hair.
