For my DS's team that is always being 66% swapped out - pre-season tournaments are great to get them on the field together (and get demolished).

I think the pre-season tournaments are good for two things:

1.) Tuning up a team to get ready for the season. (Effects 90% of the teams.)

2.) And not seeing how good your team is, but rather a test to see how bad it might be. (Effects 10% of the teams with a wake up call.)

There is not much honor in winning a pre-season tournament. In fact, I'd prefer to just lose one, in order to motivate the team to work harder.

Also, having Coached a team that was demolished at pre-season last year, gave us a wakeup call on on what better competition levels are out there and what we needed to focus on.

Normally - yes.
This year some of the age groups don’t look overly “premiere” on paper.
