My “fancy” practical sandals are the braided Birkenstock gizehs. Some of the others with a more shiny finish might step it up too. I know you said you already had Birks and were looking for something different. Just pointing out that there are different styles that might bring it up a notch

but clarks are also super comfy and sometimes surprisingly fashionable.

I have vionics and they are super comfortable. I also have a pair of walking clouds that are really comfortable. I found them both more comfy than Birks -- better arch support, and more cushion on the sole. The taos ones I ordered didn't work for me, although I have taos sneakers that I like. I agree with PP that Clarks are usually super comfortable -- they are the only mainstream brand that I can consistently find something comfortable that looks at least decent. The are the only brand my elderly mother has worn in the last 20-30 years, actually -- she likes their slides.

I went on zappos and filtered for "comfort" then ordered about 10 different sandals. Then I just returned all the ones that didn't work.

I agree, I think covered toes at work is good. When I was an ES teacher I gave up on fashion and wore clogs. It helped my body.

Following. I also wear size 11.

I have 2 pairs of Birkenstocks and I LOVE them, but sometimes I want something slightly dressier. I am a 1st grade teacher, though, so it needs to be functional and SUPER comfy and supportive since I'm standing and walking a lot.

I'm also tall, so I prefer flat or nearly flat, and I'm a size 11 shoe.
