In APS my kids use a 3” binder. I’d bring them first day of school and leave in locker or else if you have a meet the homeroom teacher thing bring them then.

Middle school is when we realized it was best just to buy a few notebooks and folders and wait to see what they really need. The downside to that strategy is the stores can be sold out.

Yes, be careful - there's a generic list that's always outdated, and the actual things teachers want. Having been tricked before, we now wait until school starts and teachers ask for what they want.

I keep my receipt and do a return to Target once school settles in and we know what they actually needed.

They won’t be leaving supplies in the room, unless in rare cases. Hold off on buying anything. The generic supply lists aren’t accurate. Send in one folder or binder on the first day and some paper, either loose leaf or a notebook. Send in a pencil and or pen. They will get specific supply lists from teachers.

My daughter liked picking out color coordinated pencil cases, pens, pencils, binders and notebooks so we went browsing for those. My son tried to remember to bring in a pencil daily. Each brought their laptop to school daily and that’s really all that was used most days along with something to write with if they got handouts.

This. And frankly, mine use Chromebooks for 99% of work and there are few supplies actually needed that were provided by teacher.

+1

When my kid started middle school, we also received a list. On the first day of school, they found out that it was a generic list and several teachers wanted something else.

+1. We didn’t need half the stuff on the list. Most classroom teachers have bins of colored pencils and markers for class use. Many also don’t care if you have a binder/folder/notebook as long as you have something. We have our back to school day/meet the teachers 2 days before school starts and teachers give specifics. You could also drop stuff in your lockers then too.

Bring in as needed. In middle school they no longer do group supplies. Your kid takes in what they need for themself.

What kind of schedule does she have? All the classes on one day, or alternating days? The first day, she should just take a binder with a few pages, in case she needs to take notes and such. Most publics don't have days where you drop off supplies. The kids bring what they need, every day.

My DD is starting middle school next week. The school provided a list of supplies (notebooks, pencils, loose leaf paper, etc)

When does she bring them in? At private there was a drop off day for supplies. What does she do? Pack her book bag with them?

Thanks!
