Nobody’s going to be “calling CPS,” but you will be wasting the time of the school staff who work to make sure kids have equitable access to learning.

This is so sad to me—I work in very low SES school and we haven’t been able to give hotspots to everyone who needs them since 2021, so we can’t assign anything that requires technology at home. My kids would be ecstatic to have access to our databases after school, and you make a game of it.

Yes. In my district, anyone who doesn't have internet gets a free pre-paid hotspot. They would try to make you fill out paperwork to get your own low-income hotspot service, but they have plenty to lend. Because even poor people have smartphones OR they will not refuse a hotspot on principle.

I know of a rural district where internet coverage is spotty so they don't have any mandatory online tasks.

Genuinely poor kids sit in parents' cars in parking lots to get wifi for homework. You should be ashamed.

In practice what you did is make an overworked teacher have to figure out what to do for your special snowflake.

There are plenty of poor families out there without regular access to the internet. I'm sure they're used to it.
