you can do a lot of great day excursions from the HHV/Waikiki if your child is up for 30 min-1 hour of driving, e.g., watching the huge waves and surfers on the North Shore and getting their famous shave ice; hiking (along paved paths) around the Makapuu Point lighthouse area; Pearl Harbor could be a whole day and is quite moving/important to see; there are waterfalls only about 20 minutes north of Honolulu and you feel a world away; the beaches at Lanikai are beautiful. So, I would just enjoy the week at HHV and not make yourself crazy moving hotels or islands. At worst, you go on a driving expedition one day without your teen(s) and they are safe/fine at the hotel.

We are planning a trip to Hawaii with our 18 and 16 year old.

We went to the Hilton Hawaiian Village for our honeymoon, and sitting by the pool watching a family play I said “one day, we’ll be here with our kids.”

Well that never really happened but now our kids want to go, and we have the money (back then we were completely broke and went to Oahu because my grandfather died and we could use his Hilton points he accumulated over many years).

So, for sentimentality sake we want to go to the Hilton Hawaiian Village for 2 nights, but I don’t think we want to spend a whole week there.

Any advice? One of our kids can’t handle too many transitions or activities, so we are looking for relatively low key but a place where our older one will have fun (she loves the beach, thrift shopping, and exploring). Our younger one will come to maybe one short activity per day, or beach/pool, but will spend a lot of the time in the room. IYKYK.
