That doesn’t work for thick hair. It’s very hard to do a French bread on hair that is thick, coarse, or somewhat wavy or curly.

You can tell the girl in the photo has very fine hair.

NP. I have a child with fine textured hair but a ton of it. I can do a French or Dutch braid on her fine. I have type 2C-ish wavy hair with thin individual strands and not a lot of it. I can also French or Dutch braid my own hair just fine. The easiest is definitely my DD with a medium amount of fine textured hair. Maybe coarse hair strands are hard to braid? But a lot of hair is not that much harder than just some.

Braid or ponytail for school, sports, anything outdoors.

Ask the stylist to thin it out and add long layers. Make sure they don't use thinning sheers. That's a terrible hold-over from the 90s. There are much better ways to hack into hair to thin it out than that.

A salon will thin it when they cut it. It really helps.

She could get it thinned at a salon it shouldn't affect length but ask stylist to be sure.

Hairstyles that keep it off her neck, like messy buns. But even just keeping it up with ponytail or braid, or 2 braids would help.

DD (age 9) has been complaining about how thick her hair is (it’s beautifully thick). She says it’s hot and annoying but wants to keep it long.
Any ideas for how to make it more comfortable for her? I’ve seen some kids with the underside shaved but not sure I want to go that route (unless she wants or would be substantially more comfortable).
