I usually don't agree with the Biker Bros, but this is definitely true. Speed bumps will damage your car if you go too fast and they are more effective at preventing reckless driving.

Oddly enough, however, people who oppose automated enforcement often also oppose speed humps and continuous sidewalks (and bike lanes).

DDOT has stated many times that they cannot afford to install as many traffic (speed) cameras as warranted/needed; most recently as part of the discussions re South Dakota Ave and Taylor Street NE.

However, DDOT has installed many, many speed bumps/tables/etc.

Even better than speed bumps are continuous sidewalks. It slows the cars down where it matters the most, at an intersection, not mid block. Not to mention making walkers more visible and making it easier on people with strollers or disabilities.
