Talk to your HS coach. Our HS had a sports expo for incoming freshmen. Everyone got to meet a coach for a team they'd try out for. We learned all about offseason practices and how it leads into tryouts. And from my read, the captains give the coach feedback from these offseason practices to help with tryouts.

Typically 18-20. Not everyone gets playing time.

Official tryouts will be in February but teams often have informal offseason workouts starting in the fall. By tryout time the coaches (and players) already have a good sense of who will make the teams. Have your player contact the coach the first week of school to ask about offseason workouts.

Google says high school practices will start on February 24 this year. My daughter’s team did not practice during spring break, but I can’t speak for other schools. Either way, it’s a long season, so you should take your vacation.

I understand try outs are towards end of February for High school soccer in Virginia. When do practices start? Are the high school teams typically active during spring break or do they take a break (wanted to plan family trip.during spring break)? FCPS schools.
