Probably the ER would be the first stop. They will get him sobered up and hydrated and they can talk to him about alcohol abuse and options. I'd also talk to PCP with your 17 year old and options.

Understand once the 17 year old turns 18 there is a lot less you can do. The 18 year old can refuse treatment which is common in substance abuse.

DP:

Tips on where to turn for help for a 17 year old whose issue seems to be binge drinking to the point of blackout drunkenness?

Good luck. Just know it may not stick the first time. It's okay. Any period of sobriety is a win. What is his addiction?

Caron has a special program for young adults. Not sure if Ashley does or not. Both are highly regarded.

It will help if you call one of these places and get advice as to how to get your child to agree. They are very knowledgeable and are very familiar with reluctant/refusing patients.

It is in Maryland. They have an amazing campus on the water in Havre de Grace. Being there when the weather is nicer is a blessing. It is a four week program but be prepared Ashley will need to justify insurance coverage on a week to week basis. Ashley will advocate for your son but many insurance companies only cover the first week or two when they consider the situation medically necessary. Understandably Ashley doesn't really explain all this upfront as they are focused on getting your loved one help. If I were you I'd be prepared to cover the full price for the last two weeks so that you can be confident he can finish the program. That being said some insurance covers the whole thing.

I'm PP. To clarify, I went to Ashley. My ex who passed away tried a few other options. None compared to Ashley but unfortunately we didn't know about it at the time.

Hello. I need to get my 20 year-old son into rehab, and ideally a residential program. Can anyone recommend a good one in MD? Thanks in advance.
