Come on. I know of no swimmers doing high, high level meet prelims, then a summer league meet, and then going back for finals that night at the high level meet. There are plenty of high level club swimmers that participate in and enjoy summer swim but none do the craziness that you just described.


Well, they do on our team and on the team we competed against on 7/15. And our swimmers who have been competing out of town have absolutely come back sooner than they probably would have to compete at our A Meet.


Maybe don't bother and give some other kids a chance to swim.

I think they should be banned completely, for the same reason they are banned for 12u in competitive swim. They cost up to $650 and are a barrier to entry for many families. And yes, you certainly don’t need one to enjoy the experience, but when all the swimmers next your kid has one on in a rec summer swim league, it’s a little much. Our club team only allows them for big meets - age group champs, sectionals, futures etc.

Our Div 6 coach and subsequent coaches have banned them except at divisionals or all stars.

What does wearing tech suits have to do with this?

Even if the club swimmers didn’t wear suits at divisionals/all stars, they are still going to easily beat the summer only swimmers just like they did the entire rest of the season.

Our team is like this as well. Our top swimmer often skips pep rallies and socials though. And sometimes B meets, but not the rest of them.

Swimmers on our team (in a top division) may wear them in A meets when the individual or relay is going for a record (team or NVSL).

No one is going up to a 14 year old at a summer meet to scan the qr code on their suit to make sure it's complaint.

Even with the 12&U these suits use fabric to repel water and compression to help with speed. So they offer a "slight" advantage to a normal suit.

In NVSL if you are in the 13&O age group there is no rule forbidding a tech suit.

We were at a meet where the other team had 4 swimmers in an age group wearing tech suits.

Remember that there are major differences between a kneeskin and a tech suit. A kneeskin is just a body suit that has legs attached to it. Personal choice in my book. Tech suits are governed by rules in USA Swimming and in summer leagues, so you shouldn't be seeing those except when the rules permit, and regular summer league A meets are not those places anyway.

If summer is supposed to fun and inclusive; a sport that athletic kids can Doswell because it is short sprints. Why allow tech suits/kneeskins to be worn at dual meets? Seems to go against the spirit of summer swim.

Division meets and all stars sure - wear them. They should not be allowed in a a regular A meet.
