Yep. It’s true. I took a course and got trained in SOR on my own time over the last few years. I don’t have to attend the state training - I’m exempt. My reward for being ahead of the curve? I get to provide coverage/childcare while others do their training on the school’s time.

Have you been told by the county that you’re exempt?

What about two birds with one stone: unstructured free time either outside or in the gym weather dependent. Kids need more recess time. Minimal supervision needed. Kids get opportunity for physical activity and non adult directed socialization.

I'm the OP. the early release hour are what they are. I would have rather had just a few full days, but that is off the table. I'm just trying to see if the PTA can come up with anything or coordinate some outside programs that might be educational or at least fun. I don't expect the schools will offer anything beyond watching a movie in the Gym or maybe a small amount of tutoring for kids really at risk. I'm just looking for PTA ideas or maybe a really creative idea. One idea I had was could something be worked out with Mason's school of education. I'm just hoping to help some. My kids are SACC kids so I don't need the care.

You agree with what? Adding in a couple of PD days? That would have taken away the same number of instructional hours.

They are not depriving them of any instructional hours. They are clearly meeting state mandates.

It is only important to attend the hours they dictate so their state metrics looks great for chronic absenteeism.

Whether it benefits your child or not to attend for a few hours or when they are still sick is moot.

Idea… direct the parents in your community to have their kids come home so that our teaching staff can actually engage in their PD hours and get them done this year.

We should have added a PD day or two to the calendar like surrounding jurisdictions. This is absolutely ridiculous that we are asking our schools to coordinate this on top of all the other demands and during a staff shortage.

I'm curious what Elementary Schools or PTAs or other parties or offering? I'm assisting my Elementary School's PTA afterschool coordinator and I'm looking for ideas we might be able to offer? Also wondering what school/FCPS options have been announced, as our ES has announced nothing and we don't want to arrange something that would conflict or we can't wait forever to to get started. We would be looking at paid options as our PTA budget is not huge.
