"the deplorables" - the racists and xenophobes that Hillary referred to
The other MAGAs - the people brainwashed into Trumpism - the rank and file who show up at Trump speeches but aren't paid for it
Evangelicals - the religious fundamentalists and pro-life extremists like Mike Johnson
Traditional Conservative - the ones who hold their nose and support the frankenstein because they simply can't stay home or vote for a Dem

So pick your poison, who rises from the GOP to capture all 4 of these?

Likely no one. So the party will either have to be a pro-life Christian type party or a total deplorable type party, but whatever it is, there is no unified message or ideology without a cult leader.

I wondered about this too. The MAGA extremists keep losing in all their races. The only ones who keep their seats are in heavily gerrymandered districts. The boomers are dying off. GenX hasn’t moved to the conservatives. No idea where millennials are at but doubt they are going for MAGA. GenZ thinks liberal democrats are too conservative.

As long as the primaries are driven by the crazies they’ll keep putting up weirdos but at some point the party has to want to stop losing. What’s really odd about all this is that Republicans tend to like to run and win and have zero interest in governing. Democrats seem to dislike campaigning but really like to govern.

I thought the party was gonna flame out 10 years ago. The tea party seemed like a last gasp. All of this data was pointing to shifting demographics and a changing electorate. The Republicans weren’t going to be able to compete, but they took everything in 16.
Then the tea party grew into MAGA. Trump activated a bunch of people standing at the margins that previously didn’t pay much attention to politics.
And after several cycles of poor performance, they are doubling down. Democrats purge the fringe from their ranks, but the republicans reward the extremists.
I don’t think this is over with Trump.
Conservatism has a problem and it’s bigger than 1 guy.

They've tried positioning the kids but none are electable broadly - although I imagine they could win a district somewhere.

Any neocon who flips to Trump policies (eg, Rubio, etc) will come across as inauthentic.

The true believers in Trump's policy have like, zero charisma and can't sell it.

I don't see any successor who can ignite the base like Trump can. There don't seem to be any rising stars.
