For brunch, The Mission, Fig Tree, Breakfast Republic all have locations in PB. There are also a lot of taco shops in PB. There are a lot of good restaurant options not too far away in Little Italy (your kids might like Crack Shack, Salt & Straw ice cream, and Extraordinary Desserts), North Park, Mission Hills, Bankers Hill, La Jolla, etc. Liberty Station Public Market is also a great option and not too far from PB. Overall, PB is a good choice for a vacation location with a beautiful beach, but the restaurants mostly cater to 20- and 30-somethings who want to live near the beach and go out to bars, and also to tourists. Old Town is fun to visit, but definitely does not have the best Mexican food, although Tahona and El Agave are good, more upscale, and authentic. Some other good Mexican options are Tacos El Gordo (hole in the wall vibe), Puesto, La Puerta, City Tacos, and places in Barrio Logan. I could go on and on......

South Beach Bar and Grill in OB has amazing fish tacos.

Any of the "bertos" (Adelberto's, Humberto's, etc.) will generally have great SD-mex. (Cali burrito, carne asada fries)

The Taco Stand is a great kinda-white-people-ified (think Taco Bamba) taco place with several locations.

If you get an evening away from the kids, (assuming you drink) False Idol is a must-visit.

Man, and now there’s a pizza port in ob. Op- pizza port is another solid San Diego institution. Any of them will work but solano beach is the original. Great beer.

It’s San Diego…you don’t have to go fancy it to eat and drink well. It blows dmv out of the water.

Also in OB, Ulivo for Italian and Margarita’s for old school Mexican. Ulivo is small, so I’d call for reservations.

The MArine Room in La Jolla. Reserve a table by the window. You might get waves crashing against it. Kind of fun.

Kono's PB is an institution. But other than that I haven't loved any of the options in PB. I highly recommend the Panda Express nearby!

Will be there in 2 weeks with 2 teens (13 and 15) so not looking for fancy, but we all like good food. I’m guessing we’ll try to stay in Pac Beach for dinner, but willing to drive to SD or La Jolla for the right thing.
