THey dont' stock parts for every model of car. A Honda dealer wil typically only service Hondas. They won't have an oil filter in stock for a BMW for example...why would they?

Also their mechanics are trained by Honda... not BMW.. nor do they have the special diagnostics tools or service manuals for non-Hondas.

Probably, but I would ask first.

I always thought Honda dealers only service Hondas. Why not just buy your son a Honda? They are reliable.

Typically, any mechanic can work on any car. The only time I flinch is if you are talking about some of the more finicky brands like Mini and BMW.

My biggest advice to you is to get an independent inspection of any used car you are looking to buy. Take it to a different shop that YOU choose and make sure its not affiliated with the dealership (like Chantilly Honda vs Pohanka...they are under same ownership).

Hi wish I was more knowledgeable about buying a used car

There’s a local Honda dealership where I bought a new CRV recently and I take the car there for service.
Now I need to get my teen a decent used car. I see online this Honda dealership has a slew of used cars - many Hondas but other makes too. Many older models are in my price range.

Will I be able to take the car there for service? I assume yes for any Honda, but how about the other types?
(I haven’t found another service place I like, and this dealership is walking distance to my home so it’s an important convenience thing for me and my kid)

Anything I’m missing about buying a used car this way? I don’t love carmax, and there’s not one at all near me.

Thanks!
